Intro
XL 750R Transalp
After resurrecting the Africa Twin in 2016, Honda now brings back the venerable Transalp – powered by a state of the art parallel-twin and 750ccm. Again, there was not only general enthusiasm about it, but also the question whether this newly developed motorcycle would carry on the virtues of the previous models. Robustness, longevity and low maintenance not only made the classic V2 a reliable companion in everyday life and long distance travels, but also provided a solid base for reliable and durable rally conversions.
Thus we went to work and presented at IMOT 2024 our newly developed rally version - the AQ-Honda XL 750R - to the public.
Our experiences from recent years in racing the Africa Twin, allowed us to thoroughly test it under extreme conditions, as well as to extensively try and continuously develop the used components and thus consistently optimise them. The result of this evolution also directly went into our rally-conversion of the new Transalp, presented here.
Very high attention has been paid to enhancing offroad capabilities by optimisation of the suspensions, raising ground clearance and general weight reduction measures. The rear suspension has neen upgraded to an Öhlins shock absorber and the front to a Showa "Race Works" USD fork kit. The engine sump was modified to gain more ground clearance. Custom spoke wheels with rugged Excel rims now allow for the use of off road tyres of 21 and 18 inch sizes.
The fairing kit - made of carbon/fiberglas-composite - fits the original headlights and sports a mounting bracket made entirely of carbon, that mounts the usual rally instruments and the Transalp's original display unit aswell.
The newly developed titanium/stainless steel exhaust system provides a bit more torque and power especially at low revs and saves some weight on top.
The concept is rounded off by a number of lightweight Carbon components and many other functional details.
